manhattan cocktail classics power of baijiu with lumos bar private cask imports

Private Cask Imports
and Lumos Bar in New York are teaming up for an event called The Power of Baijiu on May 17:

Come join the Lumos bar team, and learn about their baijiu cocktail philosophy. While baijiu’s reputation has been slandered by some, referring to it as “firewater” or “white lightening” due to its high alcohol content, it’s important to realize that what makes baijiu unique is its exceedingly robust aromatic quality. The fragrance is so distinctive, in fact, that the spirit is actually classified by its scent. When balanced properly in cocktails the flavors and aromas can all work together in harmony.

Tickets are USD35. More details here.

While people have experimented with baijiu cocktails for years, there is a growing interest in this spirit outside of China. Check out this post on Gin Monkey and this post by L.A. Magazine for experiments with baijiu as an ingredient.

Private Cask Imports handles numerous baijiu brands in the United States, including HKB (Hong Kong Baijiu), Shui Jing Fang and Luzhou Laojiao, and recently participated in a baijiu dinner at Hakkasan Las Vegas.

Founded in 2015, World Baijiu Day is held each August 9, with events in over 60 cities so far. Follow WBD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And get in touch via spirit (at) worldbaijiuday.com.
